Brake Rotors
moderate DIY~2h jobWhat it does
Brake rotors are the large metal discs that spin with your wheels. When you press the brake pedal, pads clamp against the rotor's flat face to slow the car — the same way you'd stop a spinning top by pinching it. Over time, heat and friction wear the surface unevenly (often called 'warping,' though the more accurate term is uneven thickness variation). The result is a pulsing or shaking when braking as the high spots pass under the pad repeatedly.
