Affiliate & Advertising Disclosure

Last updated: June 2026

Short version: Some links on this site may earn us a small commission at no extra cost to you. Our content and recommendations are not influenced by these relationships.

Amazon Associates

eli5cars.com participates in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for sites to earn advertising fees by linking to Amazon.com.

When you click a link to Amazon on this site and make a purchase, we may earn a small commission on that sale. The price you pay is the same whether or not you use our link — Amazon does not charge you more for affiliate purchases.

We link to Amazon for auto parts, tools, and related products that are relevant to the specific repair or maintenance topic being discussed. We aim to link to products that are genuinely useful for the task at hand. We do not receive payment from manufacturers or sellers to feature specific products.

Amazon affiliate links are identified with rel="sponsored" in the page code. On the page, repair articles typically include a note such as “we may earn a small commission on purchases made through links on this page.”

Display advertising

eli5cars.com does not currently run display advertising. If we add display ads in the future (for example, through Google AdSense), this disclosure will be updated to reflect that. Display advertising, if added, would be clearly separated from editorial content.

Sponsored content

We do not currently publish sponsored articles, advertorials, or paid placement of any kind. If we ever do, any sponsored content will be clearly labeled as such.

Editorial independence

Our editorial content — symptom explanations, diagnostic rankings, repair cost estimates, and driveway tests — is produced independently of our commercial relationships. Affiliate commissions do not influence which symptoms we cover, how we rank likely causes, or what we recommend.

When we recommend a free OBD2 scan at AutoZone, O'Reilly, or Advance Auto Parts, it is because that genuinely is the best first step for most car owners — not because we have an affiliate relationship with those retailers (we don't).

FTC compliance

This disclosure is provided in accordance with the United States Federal Trade Commission's guidelines on endorsements and testimonials, specifically the requirement that material connections between endorsers and the products or services they discuss be clearly and conspicuously disclosed.

If you have questions about our affiliate relationships or advertising practices, email us at hello@eli5cars.com.

Regardless of any commercial relationships, all content on eli5cars.com is informational only and does not constitute professional automotive advice. See our Terms of Use for the full limitation of liability.
