Wheel Hub Assembly
moderate DIY~2h jobWhat it does
The wheel hub assembly is the housing that bolts to the steering knuckle and holds your wheel. On most modern cars, the wheel bearing is permanently sealed inside the hub as one unit — called a hub bearing assembly. The wheel's lug bolts thread into the hub, your ABS sensor is mounted on it, and your brake rotor sits over it. When the bearing inside wears out, the whole hub assembly gets replaced as a unit. It's the modern, bolt-on replacement for the older separate race-and-bearing setup that required a press.
