Strut Assembly
hard DIY~4h jobWhat it does
A strut is a combo part — it's a shock absorber AND a structural suspension member rolled into one. Unlike a standalone shock, the strut actually supports the weight of the car and is the pivot point for steering on most front-wheel-drive cars. The 'strut assembly' (also called a quick-strut) is the whole unit: the strut body, spring, and top mount pre-assembled. When a strut wears out, the hydraulic damping inside breaks down — the car bounces excessively, nose-dives when braking, and often develops a clunking or knocking sound from the worn top mount bearing.
