Brake Caliper
moderate DIY~2h jobWhat it does
A brake caliper is the hydraulic clamp that squeezes your brake pads against the rotor when you press the pedal. Picture a C-clamp mounted around the edge of a spinning disc — when you press the brakes, hydraulic fluid pushes a piston inside the caliper outward, and that piston forces the brake pad into the rotor. When the caliper's piston or slides seize up, the pad stays pressed against the rotor even when you're not braking. That's called a stuck caliper — the brake drags constantly, generating heat, uneven wear, and pulling to one side.
