VVT Solenoid
moderate DIY~1h jobWhat it does
Modern engines can adjust their valve timing on the fly to make more power and better mileage. The VVT solenoid is the oil-controlled switch that makes that adjustment happen. It runs on clean engine oil — so when oil gets dirty or the solenoid screen clogs, it can't move the timing and the computer throws a timing code.
