Oxygen (O2) Sensor
moderate DIY~1h jobWhat it does
Think of the oxygen sensor as your engine's taste-tester for exhaust. It sits in the exhaust pipe and sniffs how much unburned oxygen is leaving the engine, then tells the computer to add more or less fuel so the mix is just right. When it gets old and lazy, the computer guesses wrong, you burn extra gas, and the check engine light comes on.
